Romberg . Scored for Solo Cello, Viola & Cello (or Double Bass), this effective and accessible three movement work offers much for the good intermediate trio. A separate double bass part is included, opening up the possibilities of performance, and although much of the melodic material is given to the solo cello, the viola and 2nd cello/double bass provide a suitable accompaniment to create a work of energy and style. Although more influential as a cellist than as a composer, Romberg's music is full of charm and elegance and successfully combined the style of the late 18th-century with the stirrings of early romanticism.
