Tony Osborne . Written as a tribute to the great Romanian virtuoso, Ovidiu Badila, who died in March 2001 at the age of 39. Threnody for Ovidiu is a heartrending and passionate lament and is one of Tony Osborne's finest works for the double bass. The music is powerful and dramatic, utilising the lyrical and sonorous potential of the double bass throughout its solo range. It was premiered at Bass-Fest 2001 by David Heyes, Mette Hanskov and Teppo Hauta-aho, who had worked with Ovidiu the previous year in Denmark, and the work has been performed by bassists throughout the world..
