Carl Friedrich Abel is probably most famous for his initiation, along with Johann Christian Bach of the highly sucessful 'Bach-Abel' concert series which continued until 1781. Abel's set of six Flute sonatas Op. 6 was first published in London in 1765. The three movement form of these sonatas was a North German design much favored by King Frederick The Great, and there are many such sonatas that follow the same pattern, where a slow movement is followed by two quicker ones. In this edition a Continuo part has been provided for Keyboard instruments.
